How it began
Growing up in Opelousas, Louisiana, food was a big part of my upbringing but I never cooked. I remember rushing home after school to watch Great Chefs, Great Cities. Even though I had no sense of cooking, I was alway intrigued by the art of food. I knew food was to taste good but I learned presentation was just as important.
In 2000, I made a Tigger cake in Home Economics and felt very proud of that cake because it was something I created from start to finish. Of course the cake was baked in a molded pan but I still felt great about it. I would have to say that was my first real taste of baking.
During my freshman year of college, I quickly realized that a degree in Psychology wasn't for me. I would sit in lectures and think about baking. It started as a hobby I picked up to pass time and release stress but I realized that baking could become a career. With the support of my family, I began my new educational journey in summer 2004 at The Art Institute of Houston.
After years of working in the hospitality industry honing my skills as a FOH manager, I decided to reinvest in my education so I began Merci Sweets, Treats & Design in 2013.
Merci Sweets, Treats & Design is the sweetest way to say "Thank You". Not only can Merci create delicious sweets but we can also assist with event decor. Next time you want to say "Thank You", just think of Merci.
